This is a very fascinating book that any serious reader may find difficult to put down. The main character is a Japanese atheist who becomes a Christian. Takashi Nagai is an incredible man who exemplifies what being a Christian is – one who is totally committed to his faith to the point of martyrdom amidst the challenges of his time. The chapter on the Nagasaki A-bomb is most touching. It is an account of the destruction of 72,000 happy, loving, hardworking citizens of the City called Naples of the Orient. However, the book does not end here. After the horrible roar of nuclear fission dies down, a song lingers on. It is a song of reconciliation, faith, acceptance and peace.

What we ought to understand is, regardless of the scriptural understanding of man as a true image of his Creator, people are different. It is this uniqueness that prompts the coming into existence of rules that act as a framework from which men and women can live and operate.

In this book, the author explores deeply and with spontaneity the words written in the four gospels regarding the penitent and the confessor. It stresses the relationship between the confessor and the penitent. Since the confessor is also a penitent, every reflection has a double addressee. He brings about a fascinating spiritual itinerary that goes from the call to the conversion, from the contemplative look of Jesus who forgives sins to the practical advice that the gospel gives for the preparation of the sacraments and to the incident in the life of every Christian.+>>>
