This Pastoral Exhortation draws its reflection from the Second African Synod which took place in the Vatican 2009. It focuses on the themes of reconciliation, justice and peace.  The objective of the exhortation is to address the particular needs of the Church in Africa as presented by the Synod Fathers and re-worked and completed by the Holy Father. It consists of two parts: the first part addresses the basic structures of the Church in the service of reconciliation, justice and peace; while the second part  addresses the practical contributions that the Church has made and is called to make to the African society through catechesis, education, health care and social communications.

Bringing Up Children
by Pamela Wanda

The task of bringing up children is as beautiful as it is hard, and as complicated as it is paradoxically easy. The family is the first school for the children, and the parents are the first educators of their children. Children are nicknamed “the digital generation” today because of their ability to use all the latest means of social communication with comfort and efficiency, and it is also a time when most parents find themselves tied up with their jobs having little or no time for their children. This hinders the task of bringing up children. However, today, more than ever, this task must be taken as a foundational responsibility if we are to build up a society of moral and social upright persons. If we fail in this, we risk leaving this task to the media which is slowly snatching away human values through its negative use.
The pattern of behaviour that each child learns and follows is in the hands of the parents. To be successful parents means to bring up children to become men and women of strong conscience and character. Children are, for the part, a reflection of who their parents are. And so in order to teach their children matters of faith, affection, understanding, order, forgiveness, sacrifice, the parents must first possess these values themselves.
This book presents ideas to parents, teachers, tutors, mentors and counsellors of how to deal with children, adolescents and young adults. It treats topics on relationship between parents and their children, formation, friendships, education of human love, emotional needs, freedom and responsibility, to name a few. Besides being a guide that provides some solutions for parenting problems, this book offers suggestions that can be considered helpful to parents and guardians in fostering the development their child’s talent and potential. It can help them to grow into mature and responsible persons who can stand on their own and develop well through life.
