With all those who have given us their help we
The ‘African Bible’ is a Masterpiece! I am writing about the Paulines and their ‘African Bible’ because to me, it is a masterpiece! It is a biblical classic, fulfilling the necessary qualities of a Bible for our times and our needs, with illuminating notes and comments, illustrations and maps. Each book in the African Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, has an introduction that explains what the book is all about. These notes and comments are not only useful for academic work but they have also been suited to serve the ordinary reader too. To evangelize, as we know, means to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to others and the medium to do this is the Bible. This is exactly what the Paulines are doing through African Bible.
For some time now I wanted to thank whoever was really responsible for the gift of The African Bible, for the vision and the production of it. As a member of the Catholic Bible Foundation of South Africa, I have been involved in promoting not only the Bible, but also The African Bible with its wonderful notes and cross-references. I have personally grown to appreciate it enormously. I also can witness to the fact that whenever we manage to demonstrate the use of its notes and cross-references and point out the advantages of the fact that it grew in and is focused for Africa, we have no difficulty persuading people to buy one for themselves and even for their friends. We also know they find its resources, information and guidance very useful personally and in groups. The proof of this is when they start quoting it back to us!
I am inpressed with the quality and so is sister Clara Frances Kusek, CR, who is our Executive President of the Mission for Resurrection Health Care. ... I commend your community for assembling this exellent version of the new Testament and Psalms. There is no other such version in English that we have been able to find. We will make good use of it with our hospital patients. James Croegaet, BCC Group Coordinator, Spiritual Services Resurrection Medical Centre, 7435 W. Talcott
The African Bible e' stata molto bene accolta. Speriamo di poterla diffondere in tutti i villaggi della Sierra Leone. Intanto preghiamo per la pace che stenta a mettere radici.
The distinctively African quality about this Bible lies in its answer to John Paul II's call to the Church in Africa, 'put the sacred Scriptures into the hands of all the faithful right from the earliest years.'
[The African Bible] would be a valuable addition to any presbytery, home or parish library.
I am writing to you in reference to The African Bible. […] I presently work for the postal service and a customer came in to pick up his registered package, rally boasting about receiving it and how happy he was tat it was in fact in existence. Please send me a copy of this so talked about bible. […]
Bishop G.B Re, Vatican Secretariat of State
Without a doubt, your work is a response to the invitation made by the African Synod to make "the Word of God known, loved pondered and preserved in the hearts of the faithful" of Africa and Madagascar (Ecclesia in Africa no 58). I would like to say a big and sincere "Thank You" to all your Collaborators and to all who made it possible for Paulines Publications Africa to produce this Bible. May your Ministry continue to enrich the lives of those to whom you minister.
I congratulate you and your staff as well as the editors and contributors to the publication of The African Bible. This is really a wonderful achievement and a genuine milestone on the way towards bringing the Bible to Africa and its culture.
The most interesting perspective of the new Bible is its bold effort to assimilate African cultures. East African Standard, February 2, 2000
"The African Bible: A Noble Gift to the People of Africa for the Great Jubilee Year 2000"
I take this occasion to congratulate the Daughters of St Paul who courageously undertook the project of publishing this Bible in response to the needs of the African people according to the invitation of the Holy Father, John Paul II (EA n. 58). May this Bible, the fruit of years of work, commitment and generosity, help enrich the African People and all who open and read it.
How do I thank the Paulines for the beautiful gift of the Bible. […] Each night I read a verse to the children and the explanations are so helpful. […] God bless you for that.
I am particularly grateful for the gift of The African Bible which I am going to enjoy studying, I am sure. Evidently, a great deal of work went into it, and I believe many are going to be helped by it.
I am happy that after all the endeavours poured into the completion of this project, we now have an African Bible to be proud of. I know that it will be of great help for the continued evangelisation of the continent.
Congratulations and sincere thanks for the big achievement of producing, The African Bible. It is a special gift to Africa for the Jubilee Year. […] I shall read it and always treasure it.
This is to commend you and all your colleagues and collaborators for the excellent work of producing The African Bible. …it is very good work: The characters are bold, the notes reflect our culture and the headings of sections very helpful and the binding makes the book dignified.
…the combination of exegetical and pastoral notes, and the cross-references, will make it a precious tool for all those concerned with communicating the Christian message.
The African Bible […] is a first of its kind in Africa. It is equally significant that women were the first to courageously take up the challenge to articulate the needs of the people of Africa and publish a Bible for the people of Africa. The Daughters of St Paul have vividly demonstrated what women can do in the Church in Africa, and the people of this continent will ever remain grateful to them.
It is a beautiful publication and a wonderful presentation of the Word of God. I am sure that it will attract a lot of interest and hopefully bring many blessings on those who will find it easy to read and helpful to the spiritual life. Thank you and all your team for the work done in service to Africa.
